An understanding of normal and abnormal body function is necessary if we are to understand the basis of clinical care. This book is a teaching aid for people who want to grasp the causes, pathophysiological changes and clinical features seen in disease processes. Treatment principles are also considered. The topics
the author has chosen for inclusion are those which are most common, or illustrate general principles of pathophysiology. Subjects are systematically taught in the text complemented by clear, explanatory diagrams.

I am taking my Pathophysiology course online. Pathophysiology is the first class to make me question my academic abilities. I began the semester struggling with pathophysiology, so I searched for complimentary material on Amazon to help me bring the concepts of pathophysiology together. I now use this book as my first source in my pathophysiology class; I rarely use my textbook. I am almost done with this semester and maintaining a grade of A.Like anatomy and physiology, this book is generally divided into body systems and their disorders. Each disorder is given in-depth consideration into signs & symptoms, pathophysiology, and treatment options. Recovery is mildly touched upon, but that is not the purpose of this subject. Navigation is very simple, you do not have to scan through unnecessary material to find the disorder for which you are searching. You may be overwhelmed by the amount of material listed in the table-of-contents at first. To overcome this, I use Kindle For PC to find the exact material I need to cover, then go straight to the spot in my Kindle to read the material.
The Kindle price is incredibly reasonable. The pictures are hand drawn, so that is one reason to keep your course textbook. Find this material difficult to read through? Use the text-to-speech function on the Kindle; it's like getting the material in a lecture.

Campbell Pathophysiology Notes John Campbell 9780955379734 Books Reviews
I totally agree with JF. I am a radiography student and had no background in biology at all. The notes I was given were cryptic and textbooks overly detailed with beautiful diagrams which makes no sense. This book gives you the foundation layers in which all other information can be built upon. Wished I had the author as my A&P lecturer.
Okay here it is plain and simple. I had a very poor educational background due to where I grew up. I wanted to go to nursing school so badly. I could never do well in the sciences. Later in life I decided to enroll in an accelerated nursing program.
I am about to graduate and I have been inducted into the international honor society for nursing and honestly I personally could not have done that without this author's books and by the way you can buy his DVDs on youtube - and I used them extensively but te books are the cornerstone of my success.
Before applying to nursing school you of course have to take physiology and then in nursing school you take pathophysiology. LET ME BE clear if you want all the details of physiology and pathophysiology you will get that in the huge nursing books that you will be buying. HOWEVER here is the plain and simple part This book and Mr. Campbell's other book Physiology Notes (the most current one) are critical to laying down the important foundation needed for both physiology and pathophysiology. I used his physiology book to help me get an A in physiology (even though I of course read the school assigned text book for all the details). Further it was Mr. Campbell's pathophysiology that gave me the broad FOUNDATION that I needed to get an A in pathophysiology.
This pathophysiology book is amazing. Even as I took pathophysiology in nursing school I would first read the chapter in this Campbell book for whatever topic was assigned in my patho class.
For me - and this is not an exaggeration - these books turned me into an honor student. LET me be clear - when I say these books lay down the foundation that does not mean that are "basic". Mr. Campbell packs into these pages the critical concepts that provide the foundation to understanding the details you will get in text books. Sometimes you can read all the details in a textbook; however if you as a reader do not possess the "fundamental" "foundational" understanding of the physiology or pathophysiology it' is then hard to grasp the details.
As for the comments posted by one reviewer "just descriptions with a few drawings" with all due respect that is not accurate. Mr. Campbell never provides just a description this man knows his stuff. I wish he was a nursing instructor in the states we would be lucky to have him. Here is the odd thing about his drawings given all the beautiful pictures we see in text books at first glance these pictures seem crude but here is the reality - the pictures EXACTLY illustrate only the point is trying to teach you. THAT IS important pay attention to what he is saying in the text to see why you only need that deceptively simply drawing to illustrate his points.
I firmly know that I am an A student because Mr. Campbell's physiology and pathophysiology books gave me a strong strong foundation . Both and physiology and pathophysiology are the basis of everything you will study in nursing school (well maybe except psych). I refer to these books even today despite being ready to graduate. I look at NCLEX questions and in order to answer them the foundation in these books has helped me to better evaluate the NCLEX question stem and better understand the answer choices.
One last thing I have the actual book not the kindle edition but I would doubt that the kindle edition is anything LESS than the book itself and probably the kindle edition has more opportunity for updated content..I don't know that for sure.
I actually read this book all the way through! No really, it took a while, because it was straight pathophysiology with no relief. Even though I enjoy pathophysiology, I actually started it because I have to teach it for the fall...and was waiting for the class textbook. I just wanted a relatively quick review, because I know most of this stuff. But even though this was written by a British author, this was a great book for doing exactly that. Be aware a few of the medical terminology are different from American medical terminology, but the rest of the book was a great find. This is much easier than a textbook...not crowded with colored pictures. This covers the basics, and I would highly recommend it for my students. It's online with , and it was free so it was a great price. There are some simple hand-drawn pictures, which assist in the understanding rather than confusing people.
This is very basic. It didn't go into all the various diseases, say for the brain. Actually, if you are looking for more neurological problems, this isn't the book. It covers things like diabetes, liver problems, some skins problems, kidney problems (without going too far into the logistics of the urinary tract). Good refresher book. Thoroughly enjoyed the straight forward writing. Why do textbook writers always insist on making the text for students more difficult than it absolutely needs to be? (This book didn't do that at all!)
very easy to read, lots of information, great on my kindle. Will find this book an often refered to resource.
good book especially for beginer and clinicians who donot have much time read the textbooks.
Preface I only browsed through a few pages after download. Bought the kindle edition and don't see how I could use it for pathophysio and teaching. Just descriptions with a few drawings. Seems very basic. I don't know if the actual book is different. The little content I read was not as thorough as would be needed for medical school. I think there are better alternatives available, so returned the kindle version.
Pathophysiology can be an intimidating subject, but the author makes it understandable and easy to remember. John Campbell has a wonderful way of presenting material. His manner is engaging and approachable.
